the beginning

It's been 40 years since a small group of Roaring Fork Valley parents and educators dreamed up an audacious idea that education can be more than rote academics, that social development is critical to intellectual development, and that classrooms are not always indoors.

The dream was hatched 1970, and Aspen Community School became an alternative choice for learning. As it flourished, so it begat the Early Childhood Center and the Carbondale Community School. The spirit and energy thrives at the schools today.

This site is a place for you -- students, teachers, parents, staff, friends and family -- to share how these schools have left indelible impressions of learning as part of life. Celebrate the good, the bad and the ugly here, with 40 years of classmates, friends, alumni, staff, parents, teachers, and community members! join this site, upload your own content, and contribute your thoughts and ideas in the online forum for discussion on how we can commemorate this 40th anniversary celebration.
